Max Oliver's Birth Story

Sunday, July 4, 2021

I was looking back recently and feeling guilty that I hadn't written out Max's birth story as I did Sebastian's... well when I looked at the post it was 7 months after he was born and here I am writing Max's 8 months after he was born so it's all good, I love them the same amount.

I went into labor almost three weeks early with my first, so I was expecting to have a similar experience with the second but it could not have been more different! My doctor was shocked for three weeks leading up to his due date that I had not gone into labor yet. I was 4 cm dilated and 90% effaced for three weeks and yet... nothing. Waiting to have a baby is the craziest, most out of control experience because literally every movement, pain, cramp you are like "okay, this is it, get my bag!" And then it's probably just gas. After weeks of that it was time for my scheduled induction at 39 weeks, I was soo ready to have him and yet.. they called me from the hospital to let me know it was too busy but to keep my phone on at all times so they could call me when they were ready. One day passed, nothing.. next day passed... still.. and then at 4:00 AM they called me and told me to get to the hospital as soon as I could to start the induction. So crazy, I did not know that they actually would call in the middle of the night!

We got to the hospital and started the medications, but it took all day before the doctor said it was time to break my water. I spent the whole day watching the election coverage, and every time my doctor came in he would say to turn that off and watch something to calm my nerves.  I was trying to hold out on an epidural but as soon as they broke my water the contractions became SO intense and unbearable and I was screaming for an epidural. I think it was about 5 minutes after my water was broken that I was beginning to push, and the epidural had not been finished yet. Well, two pushes later that baby was out and the medicine had not yet been pushed in the epidural. I was still glad I had it for the stitching after because I had some issues with blood loss and it took about an hour to get the stitching completed. I always think it is so crazy how they hand you a brand new, tiny, fragile baby and you are just holding them and taking care of them while bearing the pain of having open wounds stitched up... women are amazing!!!

Beautiful Max Oliver was born on November 5, 2020 at 6:36 in the evening, 8 pounds 8 ounces (had to look back at pictures to see the time ha!). Another dimple chinned baby boy who we love so dearly.

This pic is the epitome of after childbirth/breastfeeding. I love that Diego took it. The minute he was born I was like "Is the cafeteria still open?!"
